Hospital Quality Initiative and Operating Efficiency: Evidence from Emerging Economy Country

on .

Abstract:

Quality has become important issues for every health care service organizations. Most hospitals have strived to achieve quality excellence in order to gain competitive advantage through different strategies. By understanding the current level of efficiency of each hospital, it could determine suitable quality mechanism and provide right amount of resources. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate how to assess the operating efficiency of the hospitals which adopted hospital accreditation (HA) and international standard (ISO) by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. Data was collected from hospitals under Medical Service Department, Bangkok, Thailand. The results show that four hospitals are efficiently operated. Overall, the average efficiency score of the hospitals are quite high. The average efficiency score for hospitals with hospital accreditation and with ISO equal to 0.9022, 0.8802, respectively. Finally, this DEA approach provides top management a framework to evaluate the operating efficiency of hospitals and insights for appropriate resource allocation.

Discovering the Professional Communities and Social Networks of Emerging Research Areas: Use ofTechnology Intelligence from Bibliometric and Text Mining Analysis

on .

Abstract

This study focuses on applying technology intelligence to discover the professional communities and social networks of biomedical engineering (BME) field in Thailand. The BME field in Thailand is at the starting stage of development; therefore, the research communities and networks for collaboration among key experts has not well established yet. This paper aims to; identify BME sub-research areas that are currently focused by BME experts in Thailand; identify the professional communities of researchers and practitioners related to BME from engineering and medical field; and identify social networks of BME engineering team in Thailand. The identification of these three aspects can support the development of potential collaboration among different groups of BME experts in Thailand in the future.

The Analysis of Key Factors Affecting the Success of Technology Adoption in Healthcare Organizations in Thailand

on .

Abstract:

This paper addresses the key issues impacting the adoption of new technology in healthcare organizations. Case studies of new technologies implementation in four hospitals in Thailand are conducted through a series of in-depth interviews to determine the factors affecting adoption process. The results present the key issues that influence adoption decision and implementation processes. At the organization level, the findings contend that these hospitals primarily make decisions to adopt new technologies based on project-related costs. At the individual level, the processes are mostly founded to be affected by human-related issues. Apart from the identification of key factors, the latter part of this paper also includes the mental framework of adoption developed based on the technology acceptance model (TAM).
