CMMU Faculty Awarded Royal Golden Jubilee Grant

Assistant Professor Dr. Vichita Ractham has this year been awarded one of the prestigious 1.5 million-baht Royal Golden Jubilee-PhD grants (โครงการปริญญาเอกกาญจนาภิเษก) in the field of management by the Thailand Research Fund, in co-operation with the Office of the Higher Education Commission and the National Science and Technology Development Agency.  Commemorating His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Golden Jubilee year of reign, the prestigious Royal Golden Jubilee-PhD program was set up in 1999 to allow highly qualified faculty members to train PhD graduates at the international standard to meet the demand of the country.

Topic: CAFTA-DR Effects on FDI Inflows, Growth, and Distribution of the Workforce in Costa Rica: A System Dynamics Approach. byDr. Prad Teekasap from International Business Department, Southern New Hampshire University, USA. Dr. Prad is also CMMU alumni.

CMMU Faculty in Japan

Asst. Prof. Dr. Randall Shannon will attend an international workshop on Consumption and Well-being in the Aging Society, Advancing Research on Older Consumers.  The workshop will be hosted by the German Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo, Japan, during September 29th to October 1st, 2011.  As co-director of the Consumer Life-course Studies Group (CLSG), Dr. Randall was invited to talk about issues related to aging in Thailand and also introduce the CLSG to experts from around the world, to promote future research collaboration.  Those interested in more information can see the CLSG website at: http://tinyurl.com/44mvg42

CMMU Faculty papers accepted by Oxford's 6th Retail Conference in Asia Pacific

Asst. Prof. Dr. Randall Shannon has had two papers written with three Ph.D. students accepted by Oxford's 6th Conference on Retailing in the Asia Pacific.

The papers are titled:

  1. Shopping Motives and Attitudes Towards Retail Attributes: A Comparative Study of Shoppers Who Prefer Enclosed Malls Versus Open-Aired Malls in Thailand, written with Boonying Kongarcharpatara and Sarinya Laisawat.
  2. Comparative Analysis of High/Low Patronage Intention and Heavy/Light Spenders On Usage of Information Sources,  written with Sarinya Laisawat and Jaratchwahn Jantarat.
The conference was held September 14-15, 2011, hosted by the University of Malaya.  CMMU hosted the conference in 2007.  It is designed to share knowledge and enhance networking among academics from around the world with an interest in retailing.

CMMU Case Studies on Sustainable Leadership Published in Textbook Launched Worldwide

Along with cases of other leading-edge enterprises such as Wal-Mart, British Telecom and Holcim, two case studies on Sustainable Leadership at Kasikornbank and Sa Paper Preservation House by Assistant Professor Dr. Sooksan Kantabutra have been published in a textbook entitled “Diagnosing Leadership in Global Organisations: Theories, Tools and Cases” launched worldwide by Tilde University Press.

Kasikornbank and Sa Paper Preservation House are sustainable because both deliver strong performance, endure difficult economic and social crises, and maintain a leadership position in their relevant market over time. The two case studies are part of ongoing Sufficiency Economy Leadership Practices research at CMMU.
