Associate Professor Dr. Roy Kouwenberg, CFA

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roy Kouwenberg, CFA, received his doctorate in Finance from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 2000. After completing his dissertation he visited the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, for one year as a postdoctoral fellow. At UBC he taught in the MBA and PhD programs and worked on research projects together with Prof. William Ziemba. In 2001 he joined AEGON Asset Management in the Hague, the Netherlands, as a quantitative researcher in the equity department. After working in asset management for two years, he continued his academic career in 2003 at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. In 2004 Dr. Kouwenberg earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (R) designation.
Since July-2006, Dr. Kouwenberg is affiliated with Mahidol University, College of Management, as Chair of the Ph.D. Program. Further, every year Dr. Kouwenberg visits Erasmus University Rotterdam to work on research projects with colleagues in the Netherlands.
Dr. Kouwenberg has published his work in various international journals, including the Review of Economics & Statistics, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of International Money and Finance the Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control and Operations Research. He has refereed articles for the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal and Banking and Finance, and various other journals in the areas of finance and operations research.
Dr. Kouwenberg’s joint work was awarded with the best paper award at the 9th Conference on the Theories and Practices of Securities and Financial Markets, National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan in 2002. Dr. Kouwenberg received the first prize for his presentation at the Inquire-Europe 2000 meeting, and the sponsor prize at the Inquire-Europe 2002 meeting. In 2007, a joint research proposal of Asst. Prof. Dr. Phornchanok Cumperayot of Chulalongkorn University and Dr. Kouwenberg was selected as one of the award winners of the GARP Risk Management Research Program, by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Dr. Kouwenberg is currently also Vice Dean, Research and Director of CMMU Research Center.
